We have put some more seed down (Emorsgate 02) in three different areas of the meadow - areas less susceptible to inundation of water in smaller flood events. The three areas have been scarified with a spring tine harrow in different directions (like a Union Jack) to expose 50% bare soil. Once the seed was sown we rolled the areas with a cambridge roller to get good contact with the soil. Fingers crossed that we don't get a flood too soon so the seed gets a chance to germinate.

Scrapes are holding water.
The scrapes in the meadow should provide good habitat for wading birds, however some seem better at holding water than others, which is strange considering the same soil type is present throughout the meadow. Some of the scrapes are fairly bare, whilst others have a good variety of plant species and others have been colonised by rye grass. No two scrapes seem to have the same character, which in a way is what we are looking for - something for everyone!
